McKenny Elementary

After school art classes, endorsed by the PTO, will again be offered at McKenny Elementary School for the Fall Semester. These are ongoing classes and projects are not repeated. A commitment is required through December 15, 2008. (Please read the AFKS policies below.)

Class Schedule:

Mondays, September 15, 2008 – December 15, 2008

(Ages 5 - 8) 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm
(Ages 9 - 13) 4:45 pm – 5:45 pm

Monthly Tuition:

$45.00

The program is a sequential, process-oriented program designed to enhance your child's enjoyment of art and creative expression. The emphasis in the program is to acquaint children with various materials to enhance their self-esteem in regards to their creativity and to develop skills (similar to piano lessons). Children are provided with an opportunity to explore their creativity through a variety of materials. Drawing techniques are incorporated in these classes as well as painting and sculpting techniques. All supplies are furnished, including pen and ink, watercolors, acrylics, pastels, clay, and plaster. Limited Scholarships are available. To request a scholarship, you must call Jesse Peil at (206) 412-8816 and receive approval in advance.

VERY IMPORTANT: To register, please fill out and submit the registration form below. A check in the amount of $45.00 must be delivered in an envelope, in the Attention of Tracy/AFKS, to the school office. Check must be made payable to McKenny PTO. The first and last name of your child must be written in the memo section of the check.

Your child is only registered after the check is received in the school office and the online registration form has been submitted.

Class size is limited, so please submit the completed online registration form and your payment as soon as possible. You will receive a telephone call only if class is already filled when your registration is received. If you do not receive a telephone call and your registration form and check are received by September 13th, 2008, you may assume that a space has been reserved for your child in the group you selected.

This registration form and check must be received by September 13th, 2008. Your electronic signature on the form below acknowledges your agreement to Art for Kids School policies.

Tuition is due the first week of each month and can be mailed to Art For Kids School (except for September tuition) or delivered to class.

Art for Kids School Policies

It is important that all parents read this policy and keep this sheet.

Welcome to the after-school Art for Kids School Program.  We are pleased that you are choosing to support your child's creative exploration, and we look forward to working with your child.

PAYMENT AND ATTENDANCE COMMITMENT: 
When registering your child in the Art for Kids School Program, your signature on the registration form indicates your agreement with our payment and attendance commitment as follows:

PAYMENT COMMITMENT: 
•Monthly tuition for Art For Kids School is listed on your registration form.  Tuition includes all materials used in the classes.  A sheet of monthly payment slips is attached for your convenience.

•If tuition has not been received by the end of the first week of class, a $10 late fee will be charged, and you will be invoiced by mail (with late fees included).  All late fees and tuition are cumulative.  The PTA organization provide their time strictly on a volunteer basis, and prompt payment allows them to make the best use of this time.

•Tuition is not prorated because of a child’s absences.  If a child misses a class due to illness, you may arrange a make-up class.  If you need to do so, please call Dolly Meymand at (360) 357-5301.

ATTENDANCE COMMITMENT: 
•You agree that you are enrolling your child for all of the AFKS classes described on your registration form.

•If you choose to withdraw your child from the program before the end date of the commitment listed on your registration form, you agree to pay one-half of the tuition for the remaining semester.

PREPARING YOUR CHILD: 
•Please send your child with a large shirt that can be kept at school to protect their clothing.

•Please feel free to send your child with a snack.

CLASS SCHEDULE CHANGES: 
•Your child will receive a handout on the first day of class indicating any class schedule changes necessitated by school closures.  Please mark your calendars when you receive this.

•If more than 1 class is cancelled due to inclement weather, these will be made up and you will receive notification of the make-up dates.
 
PURPOSE OF THE ATTENDANCE COMMITMENT POLICY: 
Our purpose in requiring an attendance commitment is based in our observation that,  
1. While all children benefit by being exposed to art, we prefer teaching children who love art and are dedicated to putting in the time required to achieve skills.  
2. The children support each other as a group.  This is disrupted if children cannot make the commitment to the full course of lessons.  
3. It has been our experience that a child cannot fully develop an opinion about whether they like certain materials and media unless they have repeated exposure to those materials, and practice in their use.
4. Finally, it is an excellent way to teach the value of commitment and dedication.  Art, like ballet or music, is a discipline, and achieving excellence requires time and practice.
